Kansas City Parade of Homes

Every year the hubby and I head out and lust after all the beautiful homes in the Kansas City Parade of Homes, dreaming of the home of our future, the home where we will raise a family and celebrate 40 Christmases. Now that this new home may become a reality, the Parade of Homes serves a bigger purpose  than window shopping...it serves as inspiration. This year, I went with my good friend Jessica, and after a few set backs we found some beautiful and inspiring homes.
I snapped just a few photos for Race, of a few of my favorite ideas (or pieces of furniture) for reference, these were from my phone so please ignore the quality:
I'm obsessed with the idea of a white kitchen, but Race is definitely on the fence. This one is gorgeous, with the simple shaker doors, and modern hardware. I love the exposed hood, and backsplash. Those lights on the other hands, not my cup of tea.
I thought the layout of this kitchen was pretty cool. There is a little bar area off of the family room with a wine cooler and open shelving, that serves as a wet bar but is connected to the rest of the kitchen, so it isn't that weird awkward wet bar in the middle of your carpeted living room. This kitchen had a large, amazing prep space on the island that I loved as well.

Another gorgeous white kitchen.
This house was by far our favorite, and definitely took some chances in the color department that payed off:
Those curtains? Ahh-mazing.
Loving these french pocket doors in the study...this is definitely happening.

Yeah...we're cool...you'll notice my good friend (on your left), Jessica's leggings are tucked into her socks...she obviously wasn't aware we were going to be forced to take off our shoes, when walking through these houses ;)

Love this wine rack...it's like art.
We were obsessed with all of the industrial touches in this home (such as the coffee table above, the kitchen table below, and the rolling buffet, that I'm obsessed with in the second picture down). In fact I'm taking Race back to this one just to show him some of these pieces that I know he'll love.

Another trend we saw throughout a few of the houses, was nixing the idea of a formal dining room, and having a large space off of the kitchen for a larger kitchen table. This is something we as a couple are split on. I think (or thought) that you need a formal dining room, for holidays and entertaining...the hubby on the other hand thinks we will never use it because we are pretty casual people....After seeing these homes, I think he's probably right, it is such a more comfortable and cozy atmosphere eating near the kitchen and family room, and definitely more us.

Loved the layout for this bar area. Wine cooler, hanging glasses and open storage for bottles:
I thought this little corner setup for a desk area would be great in our loft for the future kiddos:
We were both completely obsessed with the ceiling in this dining area. The dark wood added so much character to this builder grade home, and really differentiated itself from the others.
We saw a few of these outdoor fireplaces, we're toying with the idea of a sun room in the new house (it seems to be a pretty common thing in Texas), and I think a fireplace in the sun room with a big, comfy chair in front of it would be a phenomenal place to curl up next to with a book.
I thought these inlays in the ceiling were cool and added a little oomph to an otherwise boring hallway...plus look at those built-ins:
The plan we're looking into building, has a butler's pantry, so I snapped this picture for an idea...yes, it's blurry, but the set up I loved, and the X shaped wine rack at the top is one of my favorite ideas I saw this weekend.
So that's all she wrote...We saw some beautiful homes, with some fantastic features that I can't wait to incorporate into our new home. How about you guys? Anyone else take in the Parade of Homes tour this weekend?

For the little people....

So in less than a year we will be moving 500 miles away for the hubby's job. Meaning, I will have no job. I am by far not the breadwinner in our household, but my income makes this blog and any home projects possible (along with my Starbucks and boot addiction, but that's a problem for another day).
Since, I can't twerk and don't own a foam finger, my original plan to be the new Hannah Montana is out...so this blog baby of mine has to grow.
This means that within the next year my small E-design business, and this blog need to start earning their keep and generate some type of an income, which it doesn't always do right now. In other words, this blog needs to grow so that I can someday make it my full time job.
What this means for you?
-More posts, some being sponsored but regardless more content for all my beloved readers and hopefully good content.
-Better marketing..Social media is the best free marketing out there for a blogger, so hopefully I will learn to utilize this.
-A whole new organization system...This blog should run like a well oiled machine, but it's far from it now. Hopefully I will learn to run this blog like a small business, which should mean more organization in the future. Posts shouldn't be all over the place, they should be posted in an organized matter, and that is my new goal.
I'm hoping by putting this out there I will begin holding myself to higher standards, posting three or more times a week, doing more/better sponsor upkeep, and putting myself and my brand out there in the world a little more. Wish me luck and thanks for your support!

Now onto our regular scheduled post:
Our house seems to be infested...infested with little people...we tried spraying but they just keep coming back. The hubby, has three much younger brothers...in fact, Race is 26 years older than his youngest brother. They spend a lot of time at our house, what can I say, they love us.
While at the Ikea in Dallas a couple weeks ago, I had to grab one of those Latt tables for the boys, that I see hacked everywhere. I mean come on, $15 for a table and two chairs...you can't beat it. The reason for the price is because in raw form it looks like this:
Not completely terrible...if you like super boring and bland furniture in your house...which I don't. So I changed it...
Like everything else from Ikea, it came in 1,000,010 pieces, which in this situation, was actually much easier for painting purposes:
I used Rustoleum Ultra Cover in Gloss White spray paint, because I already had it on hand.
I didn't sand. I probably could of, but I wasn't into investing too much time in a project that was going to be covered in crayons within a week.
I used the Rustoleum Black Specialty Chalkboard Spray on the top, so the kids could draw to their miniature hearts content.
And the end result:

Ikea, you sly, sly b****...You've officially been hacked.
Now those aforementioned little people, can completely destroy it
and trust me they will...

Aloft Frisco

Happy Monday all. I've been gone for a couple weeks (obviously) due to an unforeseen medical time-out and a very foreseen trip to Dallas.....Which brings us to today's post:
I've always been a fan of the Aloft Hotels style. They are modern, with fun pops of colors. We were recently house hunting in Dallas, Tx (yes, I said house hunting...in DALLAS, TX..more on that soon) and  the Aloft in Frisco, Tx became my new favorite. Check it out for yourself:

I'm so obsessed, I can't stand it.
The color usage is fearless, but still so pulled together because of the clean lines in the furniture. The rooms are furnished in a contemporary style with high ceilings. The room layouts are unique, in that there are typically two beds along an entirely upholstered wall, that face a wall of windows, with a television in the center. The bathrooms were spa-like, with rain shower heads, and contemporary fixtures. The "remix lounge" is a fun space for everyone to lounge in together, with a comfortable yet modern feel, and a fantastic bar. Such an inspiring space.
Now onto my coffee...this girls got things to do.
How about you guys? Any favorite hotel styles?
